Fireplace screens are an essential safety feature that add both function and style. These enchanting surrounds can either highlight or cloak a firebox opening. They make lovely embellishments if your fireplace wasn't installed with a mesh screen or spark guard to keep sparks and embers from escaping, or even if it came with standard glass fronts. There is quite a bit of flexibility in determining the best size of decorative screen for a particular fireplace opening so the following information is intended as a guide only. There are other factors to consider such as scale of the room, hearth size, mantle size, shape, and location, etc. Let your own judgment be your best guide -"beauty is in the eye of the beholder".
Measuring for your Wrought Iron Fireplace Screen:
WIDTH
The measurements of folding screens are given when the screen is flat. Therefore, when it is standing you will lose 8-12" in the bend of the sides. So, if your opening is 40" wide, you would select a screen that is 48-52" wide or 8-12" wider than the fireplace opening. This will allow for ample bend of the screens' side panels. If you have a very wide opening, you may need to add panels to the screen - prices and sizes are given for this option also. We sell many four, five and even six paneled fireplace screens.HEIGHT
There is also flexibility in how tall the screen should be. Some customers prefer them 2-3" below the opening while others prefer 2-3" above the opening. We are not able to change the height of our patterns, but sometimes can vary placement of feet on a French screen or even add feet to a paneled screen for additional height.
